Mark, evangelist
Introduction
Apart from being the writer of one of the gospels (probably earlier than those of Matthew and Luke), little is known of Mark. He may have died around c74. His body was brought to Venice in the early 9th century. He became the city's patron saint and remains so today. His symbol is the lion.
