Gilbert of Caithness
Introduction
Gilbert, a bishop, was appointed archdeacon of Moray by Alexander II. During his episcopate Dornoch Cathedral was built. These were turbulent times; his predecessor, Adam, met a violent end. He was a fine preacher and his relics were used for swearing oaths until 1545. He died in 1245 (ODS, 208-9).
