Sant Ninian, Trinnian, Truinnein, Ringan

These names have long been argued to be the evolution of a Scots form of the name of St Ninian as "San(c)t Ninian", reabsorbed into Gaelic with a characteristic change of the consonant cluster -tn- to -tr- The name seems to have developed a "life of its own" as Truinnean in Gaelic and Ringan in Scots.
