Introduction

Aebbe was an abbess of Coldingham. She is mentioned by Bede, among others (HE, iv.19,25), who claims she was the aunt of Ecgfrith, king of Northumbria 670-685). Elsewhere she is sister of Northumbrian kings Oswald (d. 642) and Oswiu (651-75). She died around 683.
