Columb, Colmán, Commán, Mo Cholmóc, Mo Chommóc, Mo Chumma, Columba, Columbanus etc (ns)

Introduction

This group encompasses names related to Columb in which the medial l and m remain (as in Colman and Mo Cholmóc) or become mm (as in Mo Chumma etc). There are other names which probably come from Columb which display a medial 'nn'. These are in a separate group for the sake of clarity, and because some of the names with medial nn or n may also be reached from other root names (names containing cu, con, 'hound, dog' or conn, 'pre-eminent person'). The names which are most likely to derive from con, 'hound' or con, 'pre-eminent person' are in a different group again.
