Introduction
In the early martyrologies he is associationed with Kinnity in Co. Offaly, and commemorated on April 7th. But in Co. Kerry, where dedications abound, he is commemorated on March 16th, the date usually assigned to Fínán Lobar of Swords qv (Ó Riain, Dictionary, 327-30) . He is said to be a disciple of Brénnain m. Findloga (Mart. O notes in RB512). His mother was impregnated by a salmon while bathing in Loch Lein, and ‘like the Son of the Virgin, Fínán Camm was born of her’ (Mart O notes in RB512). He brought wheat into Ireland (Declán brought rye and Modomnóc brought bees) (ibid). He has several lives, the original of which may have been composed in the twelfth century on Innisfallen in Co.
