Parish notes
Known also as Strathavon, the church was granted to the bishopric of Moray by Malcolm earl of Fife 1206x15, subsequently being assigned by Brice bp. of Moray as a prebend of his cathedral 1208x15. Thereafter this prebend with its chapels was erected in 1226 along with the church of Urquhart into the chancellorship of Elgin cathedral by Andrew bp. of Moray (Moray Reg. nos. 46, 50, 69, 81, 93). Both parsonage and vicarage continued with the chancellorship, as did the entire fruits of Kirkmichael and Knockando, which appear to have been dependent chapels of [the church as granted in] 1208x15. The cure was evidently served by a vicar pensioner (Ass. 413v; Reg. of Sigs. in Comptrollery xiii, 10v; RMS vi no.1714). Cowan 1967, 87. Till 1891 partly in BFN partly in ABD – see Shennan 1892 for details.
