NGR for the current parish church, built in towards the end of the seventeenth century, but clearly on the site of an earlier kirk as it has a tombstone in the adjacent burial vault dated 1635. The actual estuary of 'inver' of Inverkeilor is 3 km to the east of the kirk.

Arb. Lib. i, no. 57 calls this ‘church of St Mo-Chonoc’. See also Barrow 1973, 50 in his discussion of grescan (‘grazing cain’). For saint, see Watson 1926, 282; also MacKinlay ACDS-NS, 499. Granted to Arbroath abbey by Walter de Berkeley 1178x80 and confirmed by his son-in-law Ingelram de Balliol, the church with all its teinds was annexed to the abbey by Hugh bp. of St A 91178x88). Arb. Lib. i nos. 1, 54, 58, 145-7. By an early 13th c. confirmation a vicarage perpetual was to be erected and a settlement took place in 1249, the parsonage thereafter remaining with the abbey (ibid. i nos. 167, 236; Ass. 99v, 332. Cowan 1967, 88-9. Contains medieval parish of Ethie ETX.
