Parish notes
As the church of Egernesse it was confirmed to the priory of St Mary’s Isle by William I 1189 x c.1193, as the grant of Rolland son of Uhtred [RRS ii no. 293]. The parsonage continued to be annexed to the priory at the Reformation, while cure was a vicarage perpetual. See Caledonia v, 429; RMS v no. 1397. Cowan 1967, 121-2. The parishes of Cruggleton, Kirkmadrine/Eggerness and Sorbie were united in 1635. See note at RRS ii no.293. When visited the site of the old parish kirk in 1999, found it to be a remote and very overgrown ruin.
