Parish notes
Granted before 1214 x 1216 by Duncan son of Gilbert earl of Carrick to Paisley abbey, evidently on condition that monks should found a monastery in Carrick to which church and other gifts should be transferred. This stipulation led to much litigation, the outcome of which was a judgement in 1224 that a house should be built at Crossraguel to which this church and others should pass (Cowan and Easson 1976, 63-4; Crossrag. Chrs. i, nos. 2-4). Both parsonage and vicarage were annexed thereafter, the charge being served by a curate. See Cowan 1967, 42-3 for more refs.. Not mentioned in Shennan 1892.
