Wiston (or Abergarf), when it first appears in the mid-12th c., has two dependent chapels viz. Roberton and Crawfordjohn. ('Wicius de Wiceston’... gives to Kelso Abbey ‘ecclesiam de Wicestun uilla mea cum duabus capellis suis scilicet uille Roberti fratris Lambini et uille Johannis priuigni {step-son’] Baldwini’ (Crawfordjohn)'. 1153x64 Kel. Lib. i no. 336).
