Notes
In 1793 OSA xiii, 58 records: 'In the village called St John's Clauchan, is preserved with great care, and shewn to strangers, a stone which is called St John's Chair. The church having been consecrated to the apostle John, both the adjacent village and the chair assumed the name.' Note that medieval sources indicate that St John's church in Dalry was actually dedicated to John the Baptist, not John the Apostle.
