'St Leonards parish consisted of lands which had been given for the support of the pilgrims' hospital in St Andrews. This was initially known as 'the hospital of St Andrew(s)' ... but in the mid-thirteenth century it started to be referred to as the hospital of St Leonards' (PNF iii, 434).
