Notes

The small hill on which this cross-carved slab stands is called Tom a' Mhoid, 'hill of the moot or assembly'. The cross-marked stone is alluded to by several authorities, including WJ Watson in 1926, but the name "St Adamnan's Cross" does not appear to officially take shape until the 1970s. It appears on OS maps from 1977/8, and the NMRS notes that the name was "confirmed" in 1975.
