Parish notes

Large medieval parish including Leith, until 1561, when the first General Assembly ordained that the Kirk of R. should be unroofed and demolished, and the parishioners be directed to Leith. See J. S. Marshall 'The Birth of a Parish Church' RXCHS 21 (1981), 67-77. [I have a photocopy filed under LEITH]. In 1609 the legal rights of the church and parish of Restalrig, with all their revenues and pertinents, were formerly alienated from them by parliament, and conferred upon that chapel, then legally declared to be the parish church of South Leith (http://www.scottish-places.info/towns/townhistory5023.html)
