Notes
The rock sits low in the water, almost underneath the Erskine Bridge. An automatic light on the rock guides shipping, shown on OS Digimap as St Patrick's Light. A legend appears in the nineteenth century associated with this stone: "there is St Patrick's Rock, near Erskine Ferry, on which, it is said, he was fishing as a boy when carried off to Ireland" (J. Bruce, 'History of the Parish of West or Old Kilpatrick'(1893) ch. 4].
