Notes

The existence of this place is attested by the saying cited by WJ Watson (1926, 308), who says it was 'in Taymouth Castle grounds' (whence the NGR given): Cladh Cill Da-Bhì Thiodlaic mi no naoinear ann mar thrì; A nochd is buidhe Doirbhean An déidh na cloinne caoimhe. [The burying ground of Kildavee! Twas there I laid my nine as three; Dear this night is the cross-grained one After the rest so loved are gone.] This poem suggests the death of nine children buried during the course of three funerals, the least pleasant of the ten children being left to the mother.
