Notes
Reeves states that Cill ma Neachdain is also called Cill ma Ghobhannain, and identifies them with 'an empty piece of ground between the Church and the Gardens, in which Murderers and Children that died before Baptism were buried' as described by Martin Martin (1857, 418). Watson (1926, 308) records a local saying: 'Thiodlaic me mo naoi nighnean mar sheachdnar an Cill Mo-Neachdain ann an I' (I buried my nine daughter as seven (i.e. in seven burials) in Cill Mo-Neachdain in Iona'.
