Notes

The NGR is for a cluster of buildings on the side of the burn called Allt Cill da Bhidhe. The burn's eponym is probably the burial ground recorded in this abandoned settlement (now covered in forestry). There may have been a chapel (Gaelic cill) there too. This Cill da Bhidhe is the presumed origin of the name of the settlement Kildawie, recorded in 1542. The identity of this place is confirmed by its place in the sequence given in RMS iii no. 2835: 'Crosopollie (OS Crossapol), Langavill (Langamull), Knokowir (Cnoc Odhar) Kildawie, Drumgiga (Drumghigha) ....' The other places in this list can be identified, and the NGR given for Kildawie above lies between Cnoc Odhar and Drumghigha (OS Digimap). NMRS notes a number of ruined buildings, a deserted township, where OS Name Book recorded (1878) 'ruins of old used as a burial grouund'.
