The well is situated 20 m. north-west of the remains of a burial ground and medieval chapel, dating to around the fourteenth century (but part of its burial ground overlying an earlier bank) (NMRS, Canmore ID 67914). This suggests that the 'Lady' involved in this name might be Our Lady, the BVM, but this cannot yet be regarded as certain.
