Notes
NMRS suggests that it was erected in the fifteenth century or earlier. It stood in the fork of the Teviot and Frostylee Burn. The dedication of the chapel of Caerlanrig, later the church of Teviothead, to the BVM is asserted by G. Watson, 'The early history of Carlanrig', Transactions of the Hawick Archaeological Society (1945), 20-5 (cited by NMRS). Teviothead parish was formed out of two outlying parts of Cavers and Hawick. The chapel, which became the church, was in the parish of Cavers.
