At the foundation of the collegiate church in Biggar by Malcolm Lord Fleming in 1545 (see Spalding Misc. v, 297-8) it was erected ‘ad laudem, gloriam et honorem summe et individue Trinitatis, Patris videlicet et Filij et Spiritus Sancti, beatissime que et intemerate semper virginis Marie Dei et domini nostri Jhesu Christi salvatoris genitricis collegiate ecclese mee de Bigar Glasguensis diocesis erigende sub ejusdem assumptionis titulo ['under the title of her Assumption'], et invocatione moderne patrone per me institute nec non et beatorum Nicholaij parrochialis ecclesie de Bigar patroni et Niniani ac omnium sanctorum celestis curie....’, and ‘ecclesie Collegiate Beate et Intmerate Virginis Marie de Bigar’.
