Notes
In spite of there being a St Columba's Well beside the church of Kirkcolm, the early forms of the name suggest another saint may underlie it, and indeed this is confirmed by a Papal letter of 14 December 1397: 'the parish church of St Cummin de Kirkcum in the Rhinns of Galloway' (CPLS ii, 80).
