Notes
Main name of cluster including St Murray's Lodge, St Murray's Quarry, St Murray's Plantation. NMRS notes that 'The elderly farmer (D Barclay, St Murrays Farm, Maybole) has no information about a tradition or alleged site of a chapel in this area.' Despite this, they have elevated this to a new name: "St Muireach's Chapel"! (Canmore ID 41651) Though this may be correct, the evidence hardly warrants doing this. With regard to the site, there is some evidence of a barrow on the farm: Canmore ID 41671: "There is a "little acervus of earth of a circular form with a big stone erect on the middle thereof" on St Murrays farm (NS 308 118).W Macfarlane 1907, citing Abercrombie 1696 (Geog. Coll. ii, 5).
