Notes

NGR is for the former settlement on slopes of Kilmein Hill, labelled Kilmein (ruin) on OS 6" 1st edn. It belongs to a cluster of names based on Kilmein: Kilmein Hill, Kilmein Mount, Little Kilmein. The parish boundary crosses Kilmein Hill, and OSNB notes a drystone wall separating the parishes of Dalrymple and Coylton here. Kilmein lies in an odd "protrusion" of Dalrymple parish flanked by Coylton and Dalmellington, clearly with a view to the inclusion of Kilmein in some way. At this site are the remains of a farmstead 'of no great age' (NMRS, Canmore ID 42674): Nearby Kilmein Mount is described by NMRS (Canmore ID 42672) as 'an irregularly chaped grassy mound' which 'in now way resembles an antiquity'.
