Notes
OS Name Book records that this spring is near the site where 'nine young women were slain by a boar'. The Boar's Stone marks the spot where the boar was slain by a young man named Archencar (NMRS, q.v. for further discussion of traditions and a carved stone associated with the welll). Note that OS Digimap shows two wells of this name, the other being 530 metres to the north-west of this one. But this second one is shown as 'Laird's Well' on OS 6 inch 1st edn.
