NMRS records of this place: There was a chapel at Westerhoprew (Wester Happrew: NT 170 417); it was dedicated to St Michael, and described in 1503 as founded by the predecessors of John, Lord Hay of Yester, and endowed with certain lands and a manse. According to Buchan and Paton, it was founded in the 14th century. H Scott 1950; J W Buchan and H Paton 1927 No trace of the chapel was found; no further information. Visited by OS (DWR) 5 July 1971 . It is recorded in Yester Writs, no. 126 (1464) where John Hay of Westir Hopprew (OS Digimap 'Wester Happrew') agreed with Master Robert Esse, vicar of Stobo, anent the building and repair of St Michael's Chapel of Wester Hoprew.
