Parish notes

Granted to Dryburgh Abbey by David I 1150 x 1153, the church was thereafter converted into a chapel of Lanark, which was also granted to Dryburgh at this time, as such was confirmed to the uses of the abbey by Herbert, bp. of Glasgow 1147x64 (Dryburgh Lib. nos. 43-45, 209-10). The church achieved parochial status once more by the 15th c., the parsonage remaining with the abbey, while the cure was a perpetual vicarage. See Cowan 1967, 164 for later references.
