The identification of this site is based on the assumption that this was the site of the parish kirk (there are the remains of two medieval churches here according to NMRS) prior to its union with Stornoway in the seventeenth century. The dedication to Christopher is indicated both by Martin Martin (1703, 106) and by CSSR v no. 335).
