NMRS records (Canmore ID 41958) that the well has alternative names, 'Chapel Well' in the OSA and ONB and 'St Mary's Well' by McJannet. It stood close to what was probably a chapel dedicated to St Mary. A plaque above states, 'St Inan's Well AD 839'.
