Notes
The notes on this site in NMRS suggest that its association with a St Ronan is a relatively late one - unless the local minister in 1845 (NSA, who calls the well 'the Dow-well') was unaware of some underground secret devotion. The association of Innerleithen with St Ronan may be a reflection of the popularity of Sir Walter Scott who wrote about the town in his 1824 novel, St Ronan's Well. St Ronan's Well at Innerleithen is not noted by Walker in his list of holy wells in Scotland. J R Walker 1883
