The site is a burial ground, within which were several stones, one of which, a cross-slab, was 'probably of early medieval date'. It has been ploughed and planted with coniferous trees, and the early medieval cross-slab has disappeared, though Ian Fisher has noted that it was recorded in a sketch by Lhuyd in 1699 (NMRS).
