Notes

NMRS records the proxmity of a Roman camp, once dismissed but now confirmed from aerial photography. Also the discovery of a possible 'early Christian long cist' at the site, two yards SW of the SW corner of the kirk. The kirk lies a short distance from the old Roman road of Dere Street. Archibald Allan's History of Channelkirk, 1900, suggests various possible origins of the name, the modern 'Channelkirk' coming into use about the beginning of the 18th century.
