Notes

OPS notes and discusses in detail a chapel of St Mary built 1175 x 1199 by William de Hunum / de Laundeles at his lands of "Rasawe", probably Raeshaw Fell. I have given the NGR of the source of the Raeshaw Burn on Raeshaw Fell, somewhat arbitrarily, though the lands, given to Melrose, should be traceable in boundary clauses: Mel Lib, no. 131. It is possible that said chapel was never built, but the commemoration is nonetheless worth recording. Raeshaw Fell and district is littered with earthworks. None have been identified with this place. NB: OS 6" 1st edn gives Fell and burn as Rushy Burn, Rushy Fell.
