The NGR is for the settlement labelled simply "St Meddans" on the OS 6" 1t edn, but it is linked to a complex of names (Low St Meddans, NS324312; St Meddans Ho NS323312) on that map. Earlier estate plans show St Meddans as an estate division on the Fullarton Estate (see maps in Old Troon). The NGR is also the site of the current Our Lady of the Assumption and St Meddans RC Church, which, despite a statue of St Meddan, is named for the area it was built in rather than / as much as for the saint.
