Notes
See Fraser, PNArran for early forms, and also for the view that the origins are indeed "St Michael's Toun". He notes forms on Blaeu as (erroneously) Kilmichael, but perhaps generic substitution would explain unusual baile + saint's name? In addition to the settlement there are Ballymichael Burn, and Ballymichael Glen. NMRS and OS 6" 1st edn note prehistoric findings nearby.
