Notes

Only some parts of the walls remain. An early cross-slab survives from the graveyard just north of the church, indicating the existence of a church or chapel here long before it was granted to Inchaffray Abbey by Robert I in 1318, as also does the record of an abbot of Glendochart in a law-text of the twelfth century. It appears from this abbot's title, and from the description of this site as 'capella Sancti Felani in [G]lendochred' in 1318, that Strath Fillan, which runs down to the head of Glen Dochart, was formerly regarded as part of that glen. The place became a priory of Augustinians when it was granted to the Abbot and Canons of Inchaffray i February 1318 (Inchaffray Chrs. no. 126).
