Notes

The supposed well lies on land which was formerly a detached part of Kenmore parish, and near the site of a proposed chapel (see Cill-Fhionn, Dull). Kenmore's church was dedicated to Céti, bishop of Iona, and Coittag would be an acceptable reduction of a possible *Mo-Chétóg, a hypocorism of Céti. NMRS records the presence of a small chapel and burial ground in association with the well, and indicates that the well was 'stil resorted to in 1784' as a treatment for disease.
