A detached part of the former parish of St Vigeans (133.9 acres at or near Hospitalfield) was included in the parish of Arbroath in 1891 (Shennan 1892, 44); at the same time 'so much of the parish of Arbroath as lies to the north of the road leading from the Arbroath and Forfar Highway past Woodville Feus to Cairnconan, and also so much of the parish of Arbroath as lies to the east of the Arbroath and Forfar highway and to the north of the parliamentary boundary of the burgh of Arbroath' ceased to be part of that parish and became part of St Vigeans (Shennan 1892, 45).
