Notes
'This was the spring called in Gaelic Fuaran Chad, i.e. Chad's Wel. An annual market used to be held close by in honour of the saint, on the 22nd August. The spring was gratified and bubbled away merrily. The market, however, was at length discontinued. In consequence Fuaran Chad took offence, and sent in its resignation' (Mackinlay 1893, 20) The NGR given is approximate, referring to the expanse of lat riverside land to the SE of the kirk, which would lend itself to use as a market stance.
