Notes
In 1630 it seems that some remains of the church were still visible. It is recorded that after the ruin of an earlier church, 'The next was called Killpettill (sic), And this Church ... was called Killmony which is now called Killpettil, that is to say the Mure Church, because it lyeth next the Mures, Mosses and Mountains. And this Church is below the sands except foure or fyve foot length of the pinnacle of that church. And the airt of there houses which are nearest the seasyde for the Wind doth blow up the sand upon the lands and the churches were destroyed with the sea which were principall Churches of Ancient. Certaine of them will be seen when the sea ebbs in the summer tyme. And the Countrie people will take Lobsters out of the windowes of the Pinnacle of that which was first called Killpettill before it was destroyed with the sea' (Geog Coll. ii, 180-81). No trace of the kirk or burial ground can be found (NMRS).
