Notes
The chapel is at Tarbert on the east side of the island, beside Tarbert Bay. These mark the eastern end of the narrow isthmus (and portage?) between the east side and the western shore of Jura at the head of Loch Tarbert. The distance between the two shores here is only 1.5 km. NMRS records the presence of 'an old burial ground, within which are the ruins of a pre-Reformation chapel'(Name Book 1878). The site has been cleared and preserved. At this site 'A standing stone ... bears on each face a sunken Latin cross, 1.0 m high with an expanded base and square central boss' (Fisher 2001, 136).
