Notes

The chapel on Oronsay is marked but not named on OS Digimap, but beside it OS maps mark 'Lochan Chille-moire'. It is named on OS 6 inch 1st edn. Note that the Augustinian priory on Oronsay was also referred to as St Mary's [in a letter of 1455 addressed to 'filiis Priori Beate Marie de Orgonse per priorem soliti gubernari'] Might this have given rise to some confusion as to the chapel's dedication? (Highland Papers iv, 181) See NMRS for description of the site. The suggestion (1878) that this wsa 'the predecessor of the Priory burial ground' is not substantiated.
