Notes
NMRS records the chapel of Inchkenneth here, actually the former parish kirk, the building possibly of the thirteenth century. Samuel Johnson composed a Latin poem inspired by this place and a supposed 'seminary of ecclesiasticks' of the early Christian Church. But there is no physical evidence for such a community's presence at the site. Several West Highland grave-slabs surviv in the church, and outside is a sixteenth-century cross. Johnson also recorded a little bell on the altar (NMRS).
