Notes

Note that there is no record of this name before 1972. The name seems to be a modern creation, derived from the modern name of the nearby church, Kilninian. But as this church is only doubtfully dedicated to St Ninian, the modern well-name which is so derived, must also be considered doubtfully related to that saint. See Kilninian, eccles. KKE for evidence. NMRS records that the well is now overgrown but its stone structure could still be seen. There is some potential for confusion between this well and Fuaran Kilninian, 100m to the west.
