Notes
This is the name of a little creek or cove on the north shore of Ardnamurchan. NMRS has no record of an ecclesiastical site nearby which might be the supposed Kilchoan which the name seems to contain. But there is a Kilchoan on the southern shore of Ardnamurchan, 7.4 km to the south. The name Port Kilchoan may imply that access to Kilchoan was sometimes desired overland, rather than by sailing round the western promontory of Ardnamurchan. Or it may simply be that since Kilchoan church served the entire western part of Ardnamurchan it was named after the parochial territory in which it lay.
