Notes
Aberdeen Breviary, for the feast of St Drostan, notes that he built a church in Glenesk, leading the life of a hermit there (ubi uitam heremiticam ducens, in loco que dicitur Glenesk ecclesiam construxit) (Ab. Brev. (Macquarrie) 6). NMRS indicates that it is not certain that the present ruin occupies the site referred to by the Aberdeen Breviary. The church was burned down in 1645 by the Marquis of Montrose, and the present remains are probably those of its replacement.
