According to Aberdeen Breviary (8 Jan., ninth reading), St Nathalanus founded a church here, and his body was brought here with great reverence, and gave health to the sick who came there. Aberdeen Calendar (PSAS 2, 260) also locates the cult of Nechtan/Nathalnus at Tullich: 'Pridie idus Januariij – In Scotia Sancti Nathalani episcopie et confessoris apud ecclesiam de Tullich Aberdonensis dyocesis...' Note that the parish is also called Tullich Nathtlak and similar. In the 1790s the local minister recorded of 'Tulloch', 'The church is said to have been founded by St Nethalen, and an annual meeting of the inhabitants is regularly kept on the 8th of January, in honour of his memory' (OSA xii, 224) This is the parish kirk of the former parish of Tullich. A number of early medieval carved stones have been found at the site. THe graveyard is circular. Diack recorded (circa 1920) the existence of a St Nachalan's Fair in Tullich, held on 9th or 29th January (Aberdeen, Kings College MS 2276, fo. 54v.).
