The church stands at the eastern boundary of Drumoak (properly Dalmaoc etc., Dal + Mayoca) parish, 55 metres south of St Maik's Well, which lies just on the other side of the boundary in Peterculter parish. The church is also close to the north bank of the River Dee, on the south side of which lies Maryculter parish. Aberdeen Calendar records the feast of 'St Mayoca virgin, not a martyr, one of the nine maidens, to whom [is dedicated] the church of Drumoak' (In Scocia Sancte Mazote virginis non martyris vnius nouem virginum de qua ecclesia de Dalmaok) (Aberdeen Calendar, 272).
