Notes
Aberdeen Calendar, 272: 'Ipso die Sancti Fotini episcopi et martyris apud Neyg Sancti Andree diocesis'. In 1495, James IV, 'because of the singular devotion which he had for St Thomas [patron of Arbroath] and for St Fotinus (Sancto Fotino) patron of the town of Torry, Kincardineshire, and for the love which he bore towards David, abbot of the monastery of Arbroath' created the town of Torry a free burgh in barony, granting the inhabitants, inter alia, a weekly market on Fridays and a public fair on the feast of St Fotinus (die Sancti Fotini) and the following four days (RMS ii no. 2292). NMRS notes parts of the walls dating to thirteenth century. A font from the site is now preserved in Aberdeen University's Anthropological Museum.
